BASKETBALL: Ngerem Heads Dodan Warriors Management Board

Former Athletics Federation of Nigeria President, Mr. Dan Ngerem has been named chairman of the management board of the Dodan Warriors Basketball Programme.

Ngerem, who is also Chairman of the Hensen Trust Group and is at the head of other sporting and educational organizations will henceforth take charge of directing the affairs and policies of the club as the President of the Club, Col Sam Ahmed (Retd) by virtue of his office as FIBA Africa Zone 3 President has stepped aside from the day-to-day running of the programme.

The former Athletics boss who produced and nurtured the likes of Gloria Alozie, Francis Obikwelu and many others leads a strong management board of five which includes the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Poosab Nigeria Limited, Elder Toba Oshinkaye, ASP Musa Usman of the Nigerian Police Force, Ada Mike, music icon Tu Face Idebia and Joseph Apu as Secretary.

While addressing the players at the team’s Ilupeju court, Ngerem charged the players to remain focused in their drive towards becoming the best in what they do but must have it at the back of their minds that only being disciplined can give them the desired results they dream off.

“Be assured that I’m no stranger to the game of Basketball and particularly Dodan Warriors. Back in 2007, I was on this same court to launch an NBA programme with Dodan Warriors and have remained with the team.

"We must all admit that we are in a tough environment but it certainly is no excuse for us to fail. The training you are getting from your coaches and management is a lifetime gift that will be beneficial to you as individuals in future.

“As the new season commences, my charge to you is to remain disciplined because the benefits you gain from sports and discipline is unquantifiable. Let’s give our very best at all times and whether we win or not, we must portray ourselves in good light as disciplined sports men. I wish us all the very best of luck.”

Head coach of Dodan Warriors, Chris Nomigo while thanking Mr. Ngerem for his words of advice to the players and coaching crew promised that the team would do its best not to disappoint the new management board.

“We’re happy to have you in our mist and want to assure you that we would do our best to better our past performances. Given the new format of the league, we will take it step by step by first qualifying for the top 6 conference play off and then strive to be among the top 4 to make it to the final 8 playoffs before ultimately targeting the top four spots that would ensure us a final placement.”
