Eko Akete Sends Newcomers Ikorodu United Out Of Lagos F.A Cup
Eko Akete progressed to the next round of Lagos State F.A Cup this morning as they edged Ikorodu United 3-1 on penalty shoot out after a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Agege Stadium in the round of 16 of the Cup competition.
Ikorodu United who was one of the favourites to lift this year Lagos F.A Cup put up a good show in the first 45 minutes of the encounter, dominated possessions got a couple of scoring chances but failed to buried them, but one man, Ridwan Adeshina, made the difference with the opener before the referee blown the whistle for half time.
The Mourice Coreman tutored side continued from where they stopped in the first half and got the second goal of the day through Ridwan who now have four goals in two matches, doubles the lead for Ikorodu United but the Ikorodu based team failed to defend the two goals lead as Eko Akete came from behind and forced them to a two all draw.
Prior to this encounter, Ikorodu United experienced coach, Maurice Cooreman, boosted after their last match that they are the champions in wait, saying that having won the Federation Cup at the National level with Kaduna United when they least expected, has the experience to pilot Ikorodu United to a victorious outing but he couldn't believe what his eyes witnessed as they were eliminated from the 2015 Lagos State F.A Cup.
Ikorodu United is a new football with experienced coaches, and players who are capable of getting the job done, they have the highest number of experienced players in their squad, players who have played in the Nigeria Premier, and coaches who tutored top football club sides in Nigeria, compare to other clubs participanting in the F.A Cup.
Reports gathered from top source has revealed that Ikorodu United will be playing in the forth coming Nigeria National League season, that the management of the team are making arrangement to buy a slot in the second tier league of the country.
