The New Media Journalists (NMJ) is urging Nigerians to make the final Matchday of the rebranded Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) a memorable one. A total of seven matches would take place tomorrow, Wednesday, at the various match centres to mark the end of a successful 2016/17 campaign. With seven days to the commencement of the second round of the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL), head coach of defending champions, Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon says he’s leaving no stone unturned to make sure they retain their crown. After six matches in the first stanza, the Jewel of Rivers recorded three wins and three draws to finish top of Group A with 12 points. Despite not winning any game on the road in the first round, Okon says he was satisfied with the performance of his girls. “If you check all the teams in the first round you can see that almost everyone lost one or two matches but we didn’t,” he said. “We tried as much as we could to get points on the road and we nearly won away as teams had to force us to draws at their own backyard. “The matches we drew were games we could have as well won but didn't. Ayo Omosuyi created 10 goalscoring chances in Robo Queens' win over Sunshine Queens.   Cynthia Aku scored a brace in an effective second half as Nigeria Women Premier League champions, Rivers Angels secured a 3-0 home victory against FC Robo on Wednesday.   The first half saw the both sides struggling to find their foot with Chinaza Uchendu, Cynthia Aku of and last season’s NWFL highest goal scorer, Rafiat Sule, missing chances in front of goal.   In the 32nd minute, Cynthia had just goalkeeper Amole Damilola to beat but blazed her shot wide while five minutes later  Chinaza's  header from an Osinachi Ohale’s cross failed to hit the target.   Five minutes before half-time, Sule also missed a sitter as the Jewel of Rivers headed into the dressing room goalless at half-time.   It was, however, a different ball game in the second half as Sule was substituted for Mercy Amanze who was involved in Angels's first goal as she delivered a sensational cross to Cynthia to break the deadlock in the 67th minute.    Chinaza ...

Technical Adviser of Nigeria Women Premier League side, Confluence Queens FC, Musa Baba-Anini Amorley was left disappointed following his side's home draw against Delta Queens in the NWPL Week Nine encounter on Wednesday in Lokoja. Chinwendu Ihezou put the away team in front in the 29th minute after a well taken free-kick by Uju Okafor. All efforts for the host to get an equalizer in the first half proved abortive as the Asaba girls' defense was insoluble. Confluence Queens make a quick changes as they go into restart with Super Falcons' invited attacker Ikeh Ginika replaced misfired Koku Damilola. Chairman of Confluence Queens FC, Mallam Abdul Sule has praised his girls for their come back victory over Bayelsa Queens in their Week Eight of Nigeria Women Premier League clash in Lokoja. The away side took a shocking lead in the 4th minutes through Charity Ifenkoh's free-kick that beat helpless goalkeeper Oluwaseun Bello. Confluence Queens however pegged back with a classic finish from striker Lola Philips in the 20th minutes of play. Midfielder Ameachi Ojini makes another quick impact in the 22nd minutes to put Confluence Queens in front as she slammed in a shot from close range.
