NMJ to Nigerians: Let's make NWPL Final Day Memorable

The New Media Journalists (NMJ) is urging Nigerians to make the final Matchday of the rebranded Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) a memorable one.

A total of seven matches would take place tomorrow, Wednesday, at the various match centres to mark the end of a successful 2016/17 campaign.

Defending champions Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens have already booked their tickets in the annual Super Four event scheduled to take place in Lagos.

Nasarawa Amazons who currently sit at the summit of the Group B table with 23 points will welcome Adamawa Queens to the Lafia City Stadium in what promises to be a spectacle.

Another game that is expected to thrill football fans is between Delta Queens and Osun Babes at the Kwale Township Stadium. A win or draw will be enough for the homers to book their place in Lagos. For the Omoluabi Queens, an outright win should see them finish in top two in the keenly contested group.

Two topmost teams in each group will qualify to play in the Super Four at the end of the regular season to determine the league champions.

"In our bid to make the NWPL Final Day a memorable one,  the NMJ has created #NWPLFinalDay and #NWPLLive to support the Women's league and we are urging Nigerians to do so,'' NMJ Protocol member Blessing Fowowe said.

"We are also calling on sports lovers in the country to show support for the Female league as we reach the end of an exciting 2016/2017 season.

"The Aisha Falode led NWFL board has laboured to ensure that we have a hitch free season, we hereby urge fans to come out en masse to the nearest NWFL venue to catch some of the finest stars in the league in action," she concluded.

FIFA Hit Banik Ostrava With Transfer Ban Over 36 Lion's Outstanding Transfer Fees

FIFA have sent the Czech Football Association a letter in which they slammed a transfer ban on Banik Ostrava as a result of outstanding dues to 36 Lion Football Club. The ban will only be lifted when Banik pay the outstanding dues they owe the Lagos based club for the transfer of Tijani Muhamed on 1st July 2023. The letter received didn’t specify the number of transfer windows that Banik will be banned from, but only clarified that it is due to the former Flying Eagles striker deal with the Czech Republic top flight team. Muhamed, 23, is a product of 36 Lion. He joined Slavia Praha from Banik during last summer's transfer window for €1.26m according to Transfermkt.com. The transfer fee should have been paid over several installments; however, Banik failed to meet the deadlines as regards the fee meant for 36 Lion.  Muhamed started his professional career at Banik after joining from 36 Lion ahead of the 2018/19 season.
