Eguma unhappy with Rivers United's away form

Image
Rivers United’s technical manager, Stanley Eguma says he his worried by his side’s failure to win away from home, in all competitions, this season. United have played five games in this year’s Caf Confederation Cup, 23 in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and four in the CAF Champions League. In these 32 fixtures navigated across three competitions, the ‘Pride of Rivers’ have yet to win on the road and the situation, predictably, have not gone down well with Eguma who is eager to buck the trend this week. “The first thing is to apologize to the fans because (failing to win away so far) is unfortunate. “We will do our best. I think we need to sit up and win our next game (against Lobi Stars). “Every game is important whether it is at home or away; what we need to do now is to correct our mistakes and come out stronger in the next game. “It is important for us to do that,” Eguma told the club’s official ...

Eguma calm ahead of CCC draw

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United FC is one of 16 clubs in the hat for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage draw which will be conducted in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday. Technical manager of United, Stanley Eguma says he is calm ahead of the draw for the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup group stage.  “This is a very big competition, no Nigerian club has ever won it before and we are looking to make history,” Eguma told our official website,  www.riversunitedfc.com.ng .    “Of all the clubs that have qualified for this stage, we are the least experienced as we are less than two years old.  “However, we have beaten more experienced sides in the past both in the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup so we will not be fazed,” he said.  United will definitely draw one of four sides in the shape of TP Mazembe, Zesco United, FUS Rabat and CS Sfaxien who have all been seeded.  The ‘Pride of Rivers’ will also face two of 11 othe...

We Will Work Harder - Dolphins FC Coach

Image
After the 2-0 loss to Akwa United in Uyo on Sunday, Dolphins coach, Stanley Eguma has promised that he and his team will work harder.   Eguma described it as a good game but adds that he will not blame his players for the penalty they conceded in the first half but adds that they lost concentration.   “The loss of concentration cost is the game but I have to exonerate them for the penalty.   “They fought hard but couldn’t control that penalty they conceded. I think it wasn’t a bad game. We have lost today but we must go back and work harder for subsequent games,” Eguma said   Zachary Baraje of Akwa United said he will only agree that things are even when they go away from home to get a point or three.   “Today’s victory will certainly help in building the confidence my boys are losing, but by the time we pick a point away, I think I will have a better team,” Baraje said.   Dolphins next play Lobi Stars in Port Harcourt on Sunday, May 3,...

Eguma Look Up To Pyagbara To Replace Emem Eduok

Image
Dolphins head coach, Stanley Eguma is already prepared for life without Emem Eduok in the coming football season as he tipped Christian Pyagbara to replace his goal machine.   As the club prepares for Saturday’s 2nd leg 1st round CAF Confederation Cup clash against Leones Vegetarianos FC in Port Harcourt, Eguma extols the virtues of Emem saying his departure is a big loss for the club.   “In football, players come and go and clubs eventually replace those who depart,” Eguma said.   “The thing is that Emem does not fall in the category of players that you can easily replace.   “We tried to get Peter Ebimobowei soon after his departure was confirmed but unfortunately for us and fortunately for Peter he secured another deal outside the country which was beneficial to him,” Eguma said.   Dolphins eventually settled for Christian Pyagbara who crossed from city neighbours, Sharks to team up with the duo of Ifeanyi ...

Super 4: Eguma Blame Loss On Late Preparation, Fatigue

Image
Stanley Eguma says fatigue and late start to the season were responsible for their 2-0 loss to Kano Pillars on Saturday.   Samuel Tswaya scored in the 6th minute and Christian Obiozor in the 9th minute.   “I knew we would not be at our best at this tournament,” Dolphins coach, Eguma said.   “Fatigue from the journey was one factor, since we arrived just last night. We also fought hard but we missed chances.   “We had little preparations because the boys arrived late to camp but we will use the Super 4 to improve on our fitness,” Eguma said.   Okey Emordi, coach of Pillars insists the team still has some more work to do to be fully ready for their Champions League contest in February.   “It’s not because won… thank God for that. I was unimpressed with the positional game of the players and their recovery after losing the ball. I expected more from my players.   “This competition is a p...

Eguma Clears The Air On Late Start

Image
Dolphins head coach, Stanley Eguma has explained why his team resumed one week behind schedule for the 2014/15 football season.   Dolphins officially opened camp on Sunday, January 11, 2015 but did not get a full house of players until one week later and Eguma explains that.   “It’s very unfortunate that we are starting very late but a lot of things attributed to it.   “We first had to register our team for the continent, then sort out logistics to get players in camp and we are happy all that is behind us now,” Eguma said.   “We hope we can achieve a little before the tournament in Abuja, as they say, it is better late than never.”   Eguma added that Dolphins will not be in Abuja to win the Super 4 tournament but to prepare the team for the CAF Confederation Cup nest month.   “The idea is to prepare the CAF Confederation Cup next month and we will use the Super 4 to build ourselves.” Egum...
