Kogi United Drawn Postives From Ekiti United's Game

Head Coach of Nigeria National League, NNL side Kogi United Yomi Elijah has disclosed that much of positives were drawn from his side's 1-1 friendly encounter against Ekiti United.

The friendly match played at Confluence Stadium saw both sides started slowly with creating of few chances.

Exchanges from both Obinna Martins and Alex Adams could not yield positive ending as they faild to connect well with crosses from Abdulkareem Yekini and Iwuji kingsley.


Ekiti United also created their own early chances as goalkeeper Detan Ogundare was put to test.

Things started working well for the Wada Boys as they were rewarded with a goal with two minutes to end the first stanza.

Yekini Abdulkareem combined well with Opeyemi Oketola as he sent a through pass to Martins Obinna who took it well to beat Dayo Olanipekun in goal for Ekiti United.

But Kogi United were not allowed to enjoyed as Adio Monsuru level the score line for Ekiti United at the stroke of hlaf time.

The second half saw Kogi United dominate the proceeding but could not get the winning goal.

Coach Elijah who noted that the dominant performance from his boys would have been appreciated with the victory believes the Wada Boys will get even better before the season.

"I'm very satisfied as you know we are preparing for the big league ahead of us, and we believe by the grace of God, we will get it right.

"You can see the first team we played in the first half is different from the second, we don't want to a second fiddle team and I'm very happy we were able to play 98% of the team, what we need now is to be patient in front of goal because if you play more than any team in this world and you don't get a goal, it means nothing, so we are going to work on our finishing and a bit of entertaining game with much of goals," Elijah said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Confluence state club, Mallam Abdul Adama reiterated his side's ambition to consolidate on last season's performance which is to gain promotion to the elite league in the country.

"You've seen it yourself that the team is building towards getting what we need, this is wh fiendly is important, I'm really impressed with the game, the word is still consolidation," said Adama.

Technical Adviser of Ekiti United, Samson Omiponle commended the performance of his boys adding that the team was still in building process.

He said Kogi United's performance should make them be in the Premier League in Nigeria.

Kogi United are expected to take the form to the state FA Cup semi final match against Federal Medical Centre, FMC FC next Wednesday in Lokoja.
