LMC Board Structure: My Fear
By- Mudashiru Shittu
When the inaugural meeting of the proposed change in the board structure of the League Management Company took place on the 8th of October 2014 which was well attended by LMC and the 20 clubs as reported.
I begin to fear for the continuity and stability of an institution who already has a strong bearing and positive impressions on fans and followers of the league in a short period.
The further ratification of Nigeria Football Federation to the change in the League Management's board structure on 23 November 2014 was based on carrying all stakeholders along in taking our league to the next level. A level in which the league should already have attained.
In this regards ,the introduction of seven board members is a welcome development but it is not celebration time yet because of the inclusion of some stakeholders who are obviously not in line with today's term of League management who will want business to go as usual, who are reputed for strangling the further growth of the game beyond their locality.
All stakeholders must therefore wake up to the present reality of modern day league management practice.
The League Management Company since incorporation has taken the league half away to the mountain top through innovations and by strictly abiding to the rules that governs the game for all stakeholders and followers of the game to see the clearer view of the land being promised.
Even if the new league board structure is in accordance with global standard and practices, the peculiarities and precedent of our society should be highly considered in constituting who the board of directors of the league should be.
In the face of the faceless five man committee and presumably unreviewable and irreversible new board structure.
Will the league be taken back to the era that ended in 2011/2012 season now that the blood in the vein of our beloved LMC is now mixed?
My fear is obviously more than what my pen can write.
Let's hope for the best man
