Kogi United's Iwuji Targets full points in Kaduna
Kogi United left back, Kingsley Emeka Iwuji has talked up his club's chances of getting a meaningful result in their Matchday 5 of the Nigeria National League, NNL encounter on Sunday.
The battle of United which is slated for Township Stadium in Kaduna by 4pm will be the hosts' fist game at home having not played the earlier fixtures due to Giwa FC's expulsion from the 'most important' league in Nigeria.
The match will also be Coach Tunde Abdulrahman's first on the road after joining the Lokoja based side penultimate week ago.
Iwuji who has been in fine form for Kogi United this season noted that his side would approach with all sense of seriousness as their hosts would be under pressure being their season's opener in front of their home fans.
The Kaduna born player also talked about his side's promotion ambition as he said its long overdue for United to compete at the apex league.
"It's good time for us to face Kaduna United, we want to put everything into it to claim a good result, the mentality and spirit is high, it's their first home game so they will be under pressure they know it's going to be a difficult match and they know Kogi United will give them a tough match, I hope we can play them without much in our heads except a good game to claim the full points.
"The team has really improved unlike before, so the target this term is promotion because we are way long due for it, nothing but such, but there's no need to put pressure on ourselves by now, we will be taking each games as they come, you know NNL is a funny league, a win or point on the road will put you in good stead to promote while failing to win at home becomes a problem, we will work for Kogi United to get to premiership by Special grace of God.
"This season will be different for us, unlike before when we play to stay and establish, now we have a focus and target which is to promote, I think we have a good team that an achieve that, with hard work, determination and God's favor.
Asked about the influence of their new coach, Tunde Abdulrahman on the team since he took charge of the Confluence State club, jagaban headed praises on the new gaffer who he described as father figure with high technical experience.
He's a very quest man for the time being, he's been putting some finishing touches in our game couple with the fact that his assistant coach (Musa Abubakar) Manaman has been doing a good job before he came.
"We have been enjoying a good working relationship with him, he's a nice man, very direct and open with his approach to things he want from us, and we have been living up to his expectation, we hope to learn more from him to help achieve our goals individually and as a team, we just want to give him the best, to feel motivated and be happy he met the best set of players he has ever worked with," he said.
