WOMEN FOOTBALL: Rolandson Odey Relishes First NWPL Away Victory
Former Super Falcons assistant coach Rolandson Odey has expressed satisfaction over his team first away win in the first match of the 2014/2015 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) encounter against league newcomers FC Robo at the Onikan Stadium. Game ended 1-2.
Bayelsa Queens began their campaign in the Women Premier League with a 2-1 hard earned victory in Lagos over FC Robo, Rafiat Sule scored the first goal of the season for the visitors six minutes into the game before Joy Bokiri doubled the lead for the Bayelsa outfit with a 31 minutes strike.
Second half resumed with both teams stringing passes, the homers mounted a lot of pressure on the visitors defence, their effort paid off with a spot kick after Okeke Chidinma was brought down in the box five minutes into the second 45 minutes, Ndubuisi Esther takes the penalty kick and plays it wide over the cross bar.
FC Robo got a consolation goal in the 67th minutes through Chidinma Okeke when she flicked in a great header from a cross resulting from a well taking free kick by Adebisi Amirat from the left flank of the field. Game ended 1-2 as Bayelsa Queens returned to their base with the first three away points of the season in their kitty.
Rolandson Odey spoke to newsmen after the game, and he says" I feel elated no matter how worst you must have seen it or I have seen it, the most important thing is the three points and the two goals that we scored which will push us forward to work harder" he said.
Rolandson tutored side were wasteful in front of goals, it was a game in which they should have at least won with a wide margin but the elated coach said that he has already highlighted keys areas he will work on before their next league game.
"The midfield went to sleep because they lost concentration thereby creating a vacuum between my own attack and my defence, you could see that they were forced to play area balls thereby putting more pressure on themselves, but luckily for FC Robo team they were able to get one goal out of the two which gave them more strength for them to push forward.
"One of the defect we saw in the game, was in the attack, we were wasteful in front of goals, we are going to work on alot of act of goalscoring before our next home against Adamawa Queens to see how we can correct that error, not just there but the midfielders too, we are going to work on those areas too, it's still work in progress" the former Jigawa Golden Stars gaffer concluded.
