MFM suffers first league defeat in Ibadan

Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministries Football Club of Lagos sufferd their first Nigeria Professional Football League defeat in the hands of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan at the Adamasingba Stadium courtesy of  a hat-trick by Jimoh Wasiu. Having won their first two NPFL matches, MFM failed to replicate their last away form that saw them defeating CAF Confederation Cup campaigners, Nasarawa United 2-1 in Makurdi. Wasiu Jimoh got the first goal for Shooting Stars in the 4th minute of the encounter after a howler by MFM goalkeeper, James Aiyeyemi. Jimoh doubled the lead for 3SC on the stroke of 19 minute. MFM put themselves together shortly after the second goal, they dictated the pace of the game, their dominance was short lived as the former Under 20 attacking midfielder, Jimoh scored the third goal of the game in the 36 minutes of play. Oshoala Flags Off Pre-season Tourney

The maiden edition of the Asisat Oshoala Women's Pre Season Football Tournament will get underway on Tuesday 23rd February at the Bishop Aggey Football Pitch in Mushin. FC Robo, COD United Ladies, Royal Toms Ladies, Kadesh Ladies, FC Phoenix Ladies and Tokas Queens will participate in the event designed to put teams in shape ahead of the 2015/16 league season. According to the financier of the competition, Asisat Oshoala, the main objective of the event is to give back to the public and also encourage girls to take their football careers to the next level. NFF names Manu Garba U-17 Head Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation has named Coach Manu Garba (MFR) as Head Coach of the U-17 National Team, with a mandate to repeat his World Cup –winning feat of 2013 at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India.   Soft –spoken Garba, who was elevated to the U-20 team after the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup triumph, led the Flying Eagles to lift the African title in Senegal last year, but his boys failed to progress beyond the Round of 16 at the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.   Garba will now be assisted by Atuni Ali and Ernest Teigpanyo. The Golden Eaglets will a few months begin the qualification series for the 2017 African U-17 Championship, which will be hosted by Madagascar.   The NFF also confirmed Bala Nikyu as Head Coach of the U-17 girls team, Flamingos. Ekiti to face Lagos in FOYSSTON finals

Team Ekiti will slug it out against Team Lagos, in the finals of the maiden edition of Fountain Youth Sports Club Soccer Tournament (FOYSSTON) on Thursday. The city of Ado Ekiti will be agog for the finals as there is a lot to play for with a giant trophy at stake for the winner.  To get to the finals, Team Ekiti whitewashed Team Ogun 3-0 in the first semi finals with goals from Tolulope Ojo, to record his second hattrick of the tournament.    The tie between Team Lagos and Team Oyo ended 1-1 and game decided in a pulsating penalty shootout. Team Lagos won the tie 4-2 on penalties.  The final match of the historic tournament will hold at the Sports Complex of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti.

Mighty Jets installed Bazuaye as new gaffer

Mighty Jets have confirmed that former Nigerian international Bouldwin Bazuaye has been named as the club's new head coach. In a statement released by the management through its Media and Publicity Officer Mbum Ferdinand, chairman of the club, Godfrey Hamza approved the appointment after submission of credentials by numerous candidates. Bazuaye shot into world reckoning when he helped the Nigeria national U-16 team, to win the maiden edition of the FIFA/KODAK U-16 World Championship in 1985. Team Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos have progressed to the semi-finals of the ongoing Fountain Youth Sports Club Soccer Tournament (FOYSSTON) in Ado Ekiti. The tournament was designed as a recruiting ground to fish out hidden talents that will dorn the colour of Nationwide League One side, Fountain Youths Sports Club of Ado Ekiti. Team Ekiti will today (Wednesday) set up a semi-final clash with Team Ogun, while Team Oyo will battle against Team Lagos in the other semi-final. Senator Ogba assures Pinnick-led NFF strong backing

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba has promised to continue to lend strong support to the Amaju Pinnick-led Nigeria Football Federation, stating that he is very much impressed with the performance of the administration so far.   Ogba spoke in his office at the Senate on Tuesday, while receiving a delegation of NFF Executive Committee members, led by the president, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick.   “Let me congratulate you on the very good job you are doing. Of course leadership is always associated with challenges, so there must be challenges here and there. Nigeria to host Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football has awarded Nigeria the hosting right of this year’s Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.   In a letter addressed to NFF President Amaju Pinnick on Tuesday, CAF noted with excitement the decision of Nigeria to switch the event from 2017 to December 2016.   The letter from CAF read, inter alia: “Considering indeed that the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup might be held early 2017, and that CAF in odd years do organize three major events back to back, namely the Africa Cup of Nations followed by the U20 and U17 Cup of Nations from January to April 2017, the CAF Executive Committee decided to ease the overall calendar of events by organizing the Beach Soccer Cup of Nations every even years from now on.   “Hence, we look forward to a tremendous competition and to meet your team as soon as possible to start the preparations of the said competition.”   The 2nd Africa Cup of Nations of Beach Soccer to be hosted in Lagos in December this year will serve

Former Nigeria Premier League Champions, Kano Pillars Football Club and Nationwide League One side, FC Ebedei of Sagamu, will be seeking a bright start to the third edition of Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament when they face off in the tourney’s official opener this evening (Thursday) at Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
