NPFL Championship Playoff: Divine Nwachukwu Strike Earns Insurance Valuable Point Against Enyimba

Bendel Insurance came from a goal down and forced former African champions, Enyimba FC,  to a 1-1 draw in the matchday  three of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Championship Playoff.

Having drew their last two matches in the ongoing Championship Play-off in Lagos, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Insurance shared the spoil courtesy of a 37th minute header by Divine Nwanchukwu.

After a draw and a win in their two previous matches in the NPFL Championship Playoff against Remo Stars and Lobi Stars respectively, Enyimba succumbed to another draw in Lagos.

Sadiq Abubakar put the Aba Elephant ahead after 23 minutes of action, with a fine finish following a brilliant attacking move initiated by the duo of Emeka Obioma and Eriugo Adiele.

Both teams came out strong in the second half and created lots of scoring chances but they could not get the winning goal.

Current NPFL leading scorer with 16 goals, Emeka Obioma had a chance to double his team’s lead in the second half but his header ricochets off the goal following an exquisite inswinger from Uwana Asuquo.

Moments later, Imade Osarenkhoe tested Enyimba goalkeeper, Olorunleke Ojo with a thunderous effort but the goalkeeper pulled a big save to deny him from putting Insurance ahead.

With few minutes to wrap up the interesting match, Sadiq released a long range effort that could have been the winning goal for Enyimba but his shot was saved by Insurance goalie, Amas Obasogie.

It was indeed an entertaining fixture for both teams as they settled for a draw.

Enyimba will face Sunshine Stars in the matchday four of the Championship. Insurance on the hand will lock horn with reigning league champions  Rivers United on Friday at the MJ Arena, Onikan Lagos.
