Naira Rain In Ogun State As Bukola Olopade Splash N2.2M On Wheelchair Basketball Federation At 3x3 National Championships
The former president of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria (WBFN), Chief Bukola Olopade, has announced a total prize monies of N2.2million for winners at the BetKing 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball National Championship.
Olopade's gesture dazzled all the participating teams from across Nigeria participating in the championship.
The Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria's foremost sports management company, Nilayo Sports Management Ltd, made the pronouncement Friday during the semi final matches at the ongoing Wheelchair Basketball National Championship.
The former Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Ogun State commended the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, for his positive contributions to the development of Sports in Ogun state.
He said: "Governor Dapo Abiodun is a passionate lover of sports who has been consistently committed to the uploftment of sports in the state and he is renowned for his unalloyed commitment and unending supports for persons living with disabilities.
Olopade said his partnership with the current board of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria led its president, Seyi Johnson, will produce positive results over the years.
He stressed: "I do not know what the prize monies for this championship were, but from my pocket, on behalf of the Ogun State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, I will support this event with the sum of N2.2 million.
"First position in the men's and women's categories will go home with a cash prize of N500,000 each.
Second place teams in the men's and women's categories win the sum of N300,000 each, while the third position in the two categories, wins N200,000 each.
Olopade, also made provision for the Most Valuable players in the two categories of the championship. Each of them at the end of the competition will go home with a cash prize of N100,000."
He promised to continue monitoring the progress of Wheelchair Basketball in Nigeria and also continue making efforts to ensure the sport is admitted as one of the competing and medals winning games at the 2024 National Sports Festival.
