Enyimba, Remo Share Spoils As NPFL Championship Playoff Kicks-off In Lagos




Former African champions,Enyimba International FC, were forced to a 2-2 draw by Remo Stars in the opening match of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Championship Playoff, on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.  


The entertaining match lived up to expectations as both teams created chances and thrilled their fans with brilliant display in the first 45 minutes which ended goalless for the two sides.


Remo Stars made few changes as they look for the opening goal. Dayo Ojo and Adams Olamilekan came on to replace Seun Odunsi, Ifeanyi Anaemena after 11 minutes in the second half.


Enyimba set the ball rolling in the 60th minute as Adiele Eriugo opened the scoresheet after he connected a clever assist by Chukwuemeka Obioma and found the back of the net.


After the opening goal, Remo Stars responded as they pile the pressure on the Aba Elephant in search of an equalizer, but Enyimba defense stood tall with clean defensive display.


Andy Okpe was substituted for Junior Lokosa in the 77th minute. The former NPFL goal-king made an instant impact with his first touch on the ball and put the Sky Blue Stars back into the game with a fine finish.


Enyimba regained the lead in the 78th minute as Emeka Obioma converted from the spot, after the centre referee pointed to the spot  for a penalty, following a foul on Mbaoma in the box.


With few minutes to end the game, Remo Stars captain and free kick specialist, Nduka Junior netted a spectacular free kick in the second minute of the added time and put the game on level terms.



Enyimba will host Lobi Stars on Monday in their second fixture, while Remo Stars and the reigning league champions Rivers United, will face off in second match of the day at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
