Despite unimpressive display in Russia Ighalo retains Super Eagles shirt

Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has included Changchun Yatai forward Odion Ighalo who was not impressive at the recently concluded World Cup tagged Russia 2018 in his list of 24 players that will face Seychelles in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.


Having lost all three points in the first round of the qualifying games to South Africa 14 months ago, the Nigerian senior national team will be up against Seychelles in Victoria on Friday, 7th September for the second game of 2019 AFCON qualifier.


Rohr at a world press conference held in Lagos on Friday afternoon unveiled his 24 man squad for the matchday 2 of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with the trio of Ogenyi Onazi, Joel Obi and forward Odion Ighalo who were practically not impressive in Russia keeping their space in the squad. He also put four other players, including former U17 World Cup –winning captain Musa Muhammed, on standby.


The three goalkeepers are those who made the final cut for the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia in the summer, but the defence has two new boys in England –based Semi Ajayi and Germany –based Jamilu Collins, while Olaoluwa Aina, overlooked for the World Cup, has been recalled.


Another former U17 World Cup –winning captain, Kelechi Nwakali, is the new face in the middle, just as France –based Samuel Kalu is the new man upfront. Henry Onyekuru, who got injured before the World Cup, is also recalled.


Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor told thenff.com on Friday that the invited players are expected to fly directly to Seychelles, arriving on Monday, 3rd September, while the one player (goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa) and team officials travelling from Nigeria will fly into Victoria on Sunday, 2nd September.

  Super Eagles star trio of Paul Onuachu, Frank Onyeka and Raphael Onyedika on Thursday paid a surprise visit to their boyhood club, FC Ebedei, Apele, Sagamu in Ogun State. FIFA Hit Banik Ostrava With Transfer Ban Over 36 Lion's Outstanding Transfer Fees

FIFA have sent the Czech Football Association a letter in which they slammed a transfer ban on Banik Ostrava as a result of outstanding dues to 36 Lion Football Club. The ban will only be lifted when Banik pay the outstanding dues they owe the Lagos based club for the transfer of Tijani Muhamed on 1st July 2023. The letter received didn’t specify the number of transfer windows that Banik will be banned from, but only clarified that it is due to the former Flying Eagles striker deal with the Czech Republic top flight team. Muhamed, 23, is a product of 36 Lion. He joined Slavia Praha from Banik during last summer's transfer window for €1.26m according to Transfermkt.com.
