MATCH PREVIEW: Niger Tornadoes FC Vs. MFM FC
With just two league matches to end the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club of Lagos and Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna will go neck to neck this Sunday in one the Match Day 37 ties which will be decided at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, Kogi State.
For the second time in a row, the Lagos-based team would play their second away match of the season after pulling a crucial point in their last away encounter in Week 36 against NPFL giants, Enyimba International Football Club of Aba.
The match is a make or mar for the two newcomers who are fighting to beat the drop. The visitors need at least a point in this duel while the home team needs the maximum points at stake to keep their NPFL status intact irrespective of their last league match result hence an herculean task awaits the Olukoya Boys.
MFM FC claimed a 2-0 win over the hosts in the reverse fixture played at the Agege Township Stadium in Lagos courtesy of an own goal scored by Abiodun Adebayo and a great strike from Stephen Odey.
Apart from the two draws they recorded at home against Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi and Enugu Rangers Int'l Football Club, the hosts are yet to taste defeat at home, they have won all their home games scoring 40 goals and conceding 36 with 45 points from 36 league ties.
Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and his wards picked their first away point of the second round of the league in their last away match. They have scored 34 goals and conceded 37 goals so far in the top-flight after amassing 42 points, three points behind the home side to occupy the 16th spot on the league standing.
Having made few changes to the squad that slugged it out with Enyimba Int'l, Ilechukwu and his lads will be looking to stretch their two games unbeaten run when they face their host this afternoon with the sole aim of gathering the available points in this encounter to be comfortable before the last day of the league.
The Olukoya Boys must be wary of former junior international, Solomon Owello, Gabriel Wassa, Abawula Anthony and Wilfred Angel Ammeh who are the stand out men for the hosts if they really want to nick a victory in this game.
Austine Opara is expected to lead the defence alongside Monsuru Bashiru, Stanley Okorom, Elom Kenneth, Nwaga Chuka with either Folarin Abayomi or Nasamu Emmanuel will be in goal.
MFM FC's midfield trio of Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Oladele Oshobe and Onuwa Chukwuka are in pole position to keep their respective shirts although the manager may include Alashe Sheriff or Chijioke Akuneto for tactical reasons.
Kogi-born Isah Akor may lead MFM FC's attackers made up of Sikiru Olatunbosun, Austine Ogunye, Stephen Odey and Adekunle Adegboyega. These men's performance may determine the survival of the Lagos-based outfit after today's game which will kick off by 4pm.
