GRASSROOTS: 16 Junior Schools jostles for Oba Durosinmi Cup as competition kicks off
The maiden edition of Oba Abideen Durosinmi Junior Secondary School Cup kicked off yesterday, Thursday in Ojo Local Council District Areas under Ojo Local Government with some interesting results.
The match day 1 of the junior secondary school football event, knock out stage, witnessed 15 goals from three fixtures, Alice Opara College, Ajagbadi crushed Lagos an State Model Junior College 6-0, Community Junior High School comfortably beat Ijedodo Junior Grammar School four nill, the last match of the day was between Aganjuaka Junior Grammar School and Army Cantoment Boys Junior Secondary School ended in a 3-2 win for the latter.
Match day two actions will resume on Monday. Osolu Junior High School will take on Awori Junior College, Egan Junior High School will trade tackles with Government Junior High, the last fixture of the match day will be between ILOGBO Elegba Junior Grammar School and Iba Housing Estate Junior High School.
The competition which began on the 19th of November will end on the 20th December. All the matches will be played at St Michael Primary School in Ojo.
Oba Durosinmi who is the sponsor of the competition told newsmen on Wednesday that the grassroots competition aimed at developing the youths in his kingdom.
The Osalu of Osalu land was a former footballer who played professional football both home and abroad but his football career was cut short due to injury but he believed he can still serve his community through sport.
“Injury cut short my career as a footballer but I have a passion to serve my community and sport is part of our plans to develop this land,”he said.
