Obafemi Martins Hit 13th MLS Goal In Sounders Victory
Super Eagles forward, Obafemi Martins was among the goal scorers for his Major League Soccer (MLS) side Seattle Sounder when they hosted Real Salt Lake on Friday night at home in match day 27 of the MLS, game ended 3-2 in favour of the Sounders.
The encounter indeed lived up to its billings as the visiting team nearly share the spoils with Martins team but their hope of returning back to their base with a point was shattered when substitute Andy Rose scored a dramatic game winner in the stoppage time to secure a 3-2 victory for the Sounders.
Sounders started the exciting match on a bright note and had a glorious chance of getting an early lead in the 20th minute after Martins found himself wide open in front of the visitors goal after a perfectly placed header from Chad Marshall but Martins failed to score as he sent his attempt on goal just high as he sees shot hit the crossbar to keep the game scoreless.
Real Salt Lake found themselves in front taking the lead in the 30th minute when Morales scored to give them a goal lead, Sounders responded well eight minutes later as Neagle drew level, Martins added his 13 goal of the season to give Seattle a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute when he converted a breakaway attempt off a feed from Clint Dempsey that deflected just off Rimando’s fingertips, giving the home team a 2-1 halftime lead.
Real Salt Lake got an equaliser five minutes into the second half as Joao Plata's shot was aided by a deflected shot off Seattle midfielder Osvaldo and beat Sounders goalkeeper Frei to give his side some moment to savour.
Obafemi Martins was on the verge of getting his second goal of the night but he was held back by Borchers on a breakaway attempts off a pass from Brad Evans, Borchers was sent off by the centre referee, Seattle could not bank on that advantage not untill Andy Rose came in as a substitute and gave his team the victory when he slotted the ball into the net.
