Ex Man United scout in Nigeria for talent hunt
Former Manchester United scout, David Hobson is currently in Nigeria for a one week scouting exercise taking place at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos State, reports nigeriasportsarena.blogspot.com.
The one week scouting program which had about thirteen grassroots teams from Lagos, Ibadan, Benin and Port Harcourt in participation is organised and sponsored by Nigeria League One (NLO) side, Valiant FC.
"We have been working with Valiant Football Academy for sometimes and this will be our third time in Nigeria. We have already been to Enugu State and we got like two players from Enugu, they will be joining us here in Lagos," said David Hobson.
"The talents we have discovered from this program will be going to Latvia to join a team over there for trials if they do well that means they will be playing in the Latvian Premier League and in the Europa League next year. So that's the pathway we are building up, that's the small pathway for now, it's already started the players are set to go and I think it's a good starting point.
"This scouting program is like anything else for me though with great talents. I have worked for Manchester United for 13 years and I never worked outside of the premier league. So I am looking out for players in the sky. I am looking for players that can perform in Europe, players that can perform when the whether is cold and that's why we are doing this in stages.
"It's very difficult to make judgment based on what we have seen so far but the thing is, we have seen great talents here and I think they can be future stars. I have seen the videos of the goalkeeper playing for Valiant, he's a good goalkeeper but we still need to see more of him before our final decision," says the founder of the Professional Football Scouts Association.
Valiant FC 14 year-old wonder kid, Babatunde Akinsola has been a delight to watch in the one week scouting exercise. The leftwinger is one of the very few talented players discovered at the event.
