Multi Media Journalists Congratulate Super Falcons On AWCON Success

Multi Media Journalists have congratulated the national women's football team, Super Falcons, on their victory over Cameroon in Saturday's final of the 2016 Africa Women's Championship (AWCON).

The Florence Omagbemi managed side swept to their eighth AWCON title after En Avant Guinean forward Desire Oparanozie struck with six minutes left on the clock to ensure that the Super Falcons retained their continental title in a fully packed Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.


In a press statement released on Monday, Multi Media Journalists' spokesperson, Alonge Akinlolu said, "It is indeed a joyous moment in the history of women football in Nigeria and we congratulate the Super Falcons players, technical team and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for representing us very well in the tournament. The ladies really showed maturity and delivered the eighth AWCON for their dearest country."


The statement hailed the players for displaying exemplary strength, courage, determination and patriotism as well as great skills and creativity to silence hosts Cameroon in the final of the eight-team tournament.


"The Super Falcons delivered the mandate handed to them before the commencement of the tournament. They fought hard for the interest of the nation and won the cup in front the Cameroonian fans. They are real partriots."


"We are very proud of the Super Falcons for their remarkable achievement and we firmly believe that this excellent performance will take the other national sides to higher levels in the international football fraternity."


"The AWCON is the biggest women's football competiton on the African continent and for us to have won it again shows that we are still a force not just in Africa but in the world too."


On behalf of the Multi Media Journalists, Alonge Akinlolu further thanked football supporters and Nigerians for rallying behind the team and said their support had yielded impressive results, not only for the Super Falcons, but for the entire nation.
