LMC approves Ezeji iconic signing to Heartland
Heartland FC has been granted approval to register Victor Ezeji for the remaining games of the Glo Premier League 2014/15 season, a development that will see the player reach an iconic 20th uninterrupted season as a professional player in the league.
Ezeji, a graduate of Accounting from the University of Port Harcourt started his professional career with Sharks of Port Harcourt before he left to join Dolphins and later Enyimba International. He also had stints at Kano Pillars and Sunshine Stars where he last played.
Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), Shehu Dikko said the approval was granted on the discretion of the LMC in line with relevant provisions of the NPFL Framework and Rules which empowers the LMC to grant waivers to applications for registration of a player outside the transfer window in special circumstances like this and for qualified players under the Elite Players' Scheme or Youth Development Scheme.
Dikko also said consideration for the approval was made “in view of Ezeji’s long standing service to the league logging 19yrs for different clubs and being an out of contract player. It is also consistent with the powers of the LMC under article B9.64 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Framework and Rule which grants discretionary powers to the LMC for special registration hence we have approved his registration as a player/coach by Heartland for the remainder of the season.
“It is our intention to in the days ahead, monitor and support the player to make a decision on his post-football future such as assisting him build a career in coaching or punditry’, Dikko added.
That LMC boss explained that “we arrived at this decision to support Ezeji as a policy to outstanding contributions to the league and the clubs. There is also the additional fact that he also took time to acquire University education and qualified as Accountant which is worthy of emulation and the LMC would always hold up role models to motivate others, especially younger ones to also aspire for such honour.
He has scored for all the clubs he played for and has the distinct record of having also scored in all the 19 seasons he played in the league. Interestingly, Ezeji, who hails from Mbaise in Imo State is returning to his state-owned club to possibly call time on a career that has seen him win laurels in the League and Federation Cup with Enyimba, Sharks and Dolphins.
