Image
The journey of Nigeria's Flamingoes at the ongoing FIFA U17 Women's World Cup Jordan 2016 was on Saturday cut short by their counterparts from North Korea, who beat them 3-0 at the Amman International Stadium to affirm top spot in Group C and move on to the knockout round. With only one point and a minus one goal difference, Nigeria just needed to defeat North Korea by a two-goal margin to secure a place in the quarter-final. But in spite of a promising start to the game which would ultimately decide their fate, Bala Nikyu's girls rather conceded two more goals than they had in their previous two games. They had lost 1-0 to Brazil in their first game before playing out a goalless draw against England in their second group game. "In football you must have a winner and a loser and, in the spirit of the game, if you lose, you take it," an obviously upset, Coach Bala Nikyu stated at the post match press conference.  "Football is like that. Image
President of Go Round FC, Felix Obuah has said he is happy the club remained in the Nigeria National League, NNL, after their inability to gain promotion. Obuah said on Sunday that he wanted the club to qualify to play in the top tier NPFL but failure to achieve that does not change the fact that they had a good season. "At the start of the year, our target as usual was to qualify for the NPFL and we really put our hearts out to achieve that. WOMEN FOOTBALL: Losing first match is not losing focus, says Nikyu

Nigeria are currently one of the six teams at the ongoing FIFA U17 Women's World Cup Jordan 2016, in dire need of points, having started off their campaign on a losing note. Brazil had, on Saturday, inflicted a first ever opening match defeat on the Flamingoes with an audacious long range shot from their skilful No 10, Micaelly, and have remained atop Group C following the intriguing 3-3 draw between England and North Korea. Coach Bala Nikyu, however, would rather remain unperturbed in spite of the fact that his side are rocking the bottom of the Group. "One thing with a competition is, you cannot lose your first match and rule yourself out," Nikyu stated while speaking with AIPSMEDIA at the Al Jazeera training site on Sunday. He continued: "Because if you remember very well, in this U17 (Women's World Cup) Ghana, after losing their first match, won the last two matches and played up to the semi finals and won third place. That was in Azerbaijan. "So l

Chelsea’s Moses and Watford’s former junior international Success had been called up as part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Matchday Day 1 tie against the Chipolopolo, but the Nigeria Football Federation received letters over the weekend saying Moses has hamstring trouble (adduced as reason for his being substituted in Chelsea’s match against Hull City) and that Success, who scored for Watford in their 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, has a knock and finding it difficult to walk. Rohr has now called up NPFL stars Godwin Obaje and Chisom Egbuchulam to take the places of the two injured players. Obaje, on the books of Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, finished the just –ended Nigeri
