Sunday Dare Rates Delta State High In Sports Development

The Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare has charged states across the nation to imbibe the Delta Model in a bid to enhance the development of grassroots sports in the country. Chief Dare gave the charge in Asaba when he undertook an inspection tour of the Steven Keshi International Stadium, Asaba to ascertain the level of the states preparedness to host the 2022 National Sports Festival. The Minister who was conducted round the facilities by the Chairman of the State Sports Commission and President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Chief Tonobok Okowa  said Delta remained the leader in Nigerian sports and the model it had been working with had helped it maintain that lead over the years. He said that other states that had imbibed the model have also reaped the fruits saying states like Lagos, Kwara, Kano and Edo had emulated the Sports Commission model introduced by Delta State and the result had been heart warming over the years. Kings Cup Super 8: G12 crowned champions after a narrow win over 36 Lion

An eventful talent discovery program; the Kings Cup Super 8, 2022 edition comes to an end today, at the Legacy pitch Surulere, Lagos, as G12 emerged the winner of the competition. G12 are champions of the 2nd edition tournament after claiming a 1-0 win over 36 Lion and were rewarded with N2.5M. The King Sport FC claimed a deserved 2-0 win over Glory Boys FC in the third place fixture. For emerging as the second best team of the tournament, 36 Lion were presented with a dummy check of N1M while Kings Sport FC were rewarded with a sum of N500,000.

Birmingham 2022: Sports Ministry Appoints Yussuf Alli As Team Nigeria Coordinator

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has appointed former international athlete and now Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Mr Yussuf Alli as the Coordinator of Team Nigeria to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Alli, who was the captain of Team Nigeria to two consecutive Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988 is expected to bring his experiences as a former athlete and his expertise as an administrator to bear on Nigeria's participation at the Games. He will, in collaboration with the Ministry, coordinate and ensure the success of Team Nigeria by working as a bridge between the athletes, federations and the Ministry, ensuring there is synergy in the team. Nigeria finished in 9th place at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia winning nine gold, nine silver and six bronze medals while her best performance ever was in Victoria, Canada in 1994 where she won eleven gold, thirteen silver and thirteen bronze medals to finish 4th.

The Chairman of Gombe State Football Association, Yakubu Sarma has refuted the claims that there are clandestine moves by the States Football Association Chairmen to unseat the incumbent Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick.    A certain sports website, www.insideglasshouse.com had in the publication of 5th April, 2022  with the headline: 'FA Chairmen Move To Impeach Disgraced Amaju Pinnick' concorted that States FA Chairmen were set to impeach the NFF boss. Activities at the new sporting arena donated to the people of Ogbomoso community included taekwondo, table tennis, badminton and a host of other activities. National Para Games: Sunday Dare Declares Historic Games Open

In what would represent another landmark achievement to his administration, Nigeria's Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare, on Saturday declared Nigeria's first ever National Para-Sports Games open at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. While declaring the Games open, the minister stated that Para Sports has contributed in no small measure in bringing glory to Nigeria, both at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games over the years and thus, para sports deserve utmost recognition. National Football League To Open Three-day Camp In Africa

The National Football League (NFL) is opening a pathway for African players with a developmental camp in Africa The league announced that a three-day camp will take place in Africa this year June.  It will feature players who previously participated at regional events led by Nigeria’s Osi Umenyiora, the two-time Super Bowl-winning defensive end with the New York Giants. Specific dates in June for the camp and a fan event will be communicated soon. “To bring the NFL to Africa has long been a dream of mine,” said Umenyiora, whose parents are Nigerian.  “Today that dream is a reality. The opportunities that will come to so many Africans cannot be understated, and we are thankful for them. We cannot wait to show the world what we can do.” Loads of Nigerian football prospects are expected to benefit from the camp.
