2019 AFCON Qualifier: NFF Chieftain Ahmed Fresh warns Super Eagles ahead of Seychelles tie

Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Committee, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, has given a notice of warning to Super Eagles technical crew led by Gernot Rohr and the entire team not to de-emphasize the performance of the Pirates of Seychelles in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier which comes up tomorrow (September 8, 2018) at the Stade Linite in Victoria.

This is coming after unimpressive performance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where the three-time AFCON champions failed to sail through the group stage. The Niger State FA Boss believes if Super Eagles downplay the Pirates it could open up the already closed wounds in the heart of millions of football fans.

He articulated that the NFF Technical and Development Committe have given the team adequate preparations ahead of this weekend tie against Seychelles.

"Football does not respect big names regardless of how big a nation and its national teams are. It goes beyond what we see on papers, in terms of ranking Seychelles are no where compared to big football nation like Nigeria on the continent of Africa.

"Despite the challenges, we (NFF) went further to make available everything the Super Eagles needs to garner the available three points against Seychelles. So, anything short of victory won't be good for the nation and its football fans. We don't want anything that would take the football back to what happened the last time out in Russia," said Fresh.

Ahmed Fresh, A member of Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Technical and Development Committee was also swift on the AFCON ticket.

"The team coach, Rohr should not forget he's carrying a lots of responsibilities, knowing that we missed out from the AFCON on two occasions. Of course,  the Technical Committee understood the little constraints of the team due to injuries.

"However, the rest of the team should be more focused on the tasks at hand, race their bars higher by restoring the hope of teeming football fans and not give rooms for headaches in the subsequent matches as the sun's rays don't burn until it brings us to a focus," Fresh admonished.

The match between Super Eagles kicks off at 4:30pm Seychelles time (1:30pm) Nigeria time, with about 6,000 spectators expected in attendance at the 10,000-capacity Stade Linite.
